Elko thanks wastewater plant superintendent Mike Hattenham as he retires after 26 years

The Elko City Council recognized Mike Hattenham on July 22 at his final council meeting before retirement, thanking him for over 26 years of service at the Water Reclamation Facility (WRF).
Mayor Reese Keener and several council members praised Hattenham's leadership, technical expertise and mentoring of staff. Hattenham said the accomplishments were the result of his team and city support and expressed confidence in his successor.
"All that was accomplished wasn't just me. It was my team," Hattenham said, thanking staff, volunteers and community partners who supported the WRF and other city events over the years.
Council presented Hattenham with a plaque recognizing his service from Aug. 2, 1999, to Aug. 1, 2025. Staff and council noted Hattenham's contributions to operations, regulatory compliance and staff development at the plant.
No council action was required; the recognition was ceremonial.
