The Elko City Council on July 22 approved Resolution 12-25 to amend the payment schedule for a previously authorized $1.8 million grant to the Boys & Girls Club of Northeastern Nevada for a new recreation center.
Under the amended schedule, the city will pay $700,000 of the second $900,000 installment by September 2025; the final $200,000 will be paid on issuance of a certificate of occupancy. The original resolution had split the second installment with the second $900,000 contingent on certificate of occupancy but the club requested earlier partial payment to assist cash flow.
Jenna Campbell, representing the Boys & Girls Club, told council the project is on target and progressing well. "The project is on target," Campbell said, adding construction is nearing completion and the facility is "growing up beautifully." Council members disclosed small personal contributions to the project but said they did not view those as conflicts and approved the amendment.
The vote amends the city's prior schedule (Resolution 09-24) and staff said the change responds to the club's request while keeping $200,000 tied to final occupancy certification.
