Board approves AB 1200 capital-assets schedule, sets Dec. 17 organizational meeting; consent items carry

The Newark Unified School District board approved several procedural items on Dec. 5, including the schedule of capital assets for the 2023–24 unaudited actuals (requested by the Alameda County Office of Education under AB 1200) and an additional board meeting date for the organizational meeting on Dec. 17, 2024.

Jose Catan explained the schedule had been omitted from the earlier 23–24 unaudited actuals submission and the county asked that it be added; a board member moved to approve the schedule and the motion carried with votes recorded via board docs (vote recorded in the meeting as 6 ayes for the AB 1200 schedule). Later the board approved Dec. 17 as the organizational meeting date after staff clarified legal timing related to election certification.

The board approved personnel and non-personnel consent agendas (personnel consent approved with the earlier modification removing the stipend portion of item 13.2), and approved a student expulsion in closed session; student board members do not vote on expulsions and the vote was recorded as 5 ayes. The board also noted item 13.3 (the stipend report) was provided for information and will return for further review per an earlier request from a board member and public commenters.

What happens next: Staff will file/confirm the corrected unaudited actuals schedule with the county office of education, and the administration will publish details for the Dec. 17 organizational meeting.
