Beverly, an agency official with the county’s Children & Youth Services office, told the board that in 2025 the county recorded "182 reports of child abuse" and "992 reports of neglect," and praised staff for investigating cases and holding alleged perpetrators accountable. "On Monday, we will be putting pinwheels out on the courthouse lawn to represent all of the families that we have served in 2025," Beverly said.
The proclamation was brought forward by county staff, moved and seconded by commissioners during the business portion of the meeting and approved by voice vote. Commissioners and staff highlighted the work of local advocates and hospital staff in supporting victims: a speaker representing local assault-awareness outreach thanked the board and noted local advocacy and counseling services were available 24/7 at the STARS program line.
