Keokuk City Council approved two contract awards May 1: one for a wastewater treatment plant roof replacement to Commercial Contracting Services (CCS) and another for hangar rehabilitation at Keokuk Municipal Airport.
On the wastewater roof, council voted to accept the staff recommendation and award the contract to CCS (motion moved and seconded; carried). For the airport hangar project, staff said the city received a GAVI grant from the Iowa DOT for $101,000. McClure Engineering received two bids; one was incomplete and the other, from Jim Barton Construction of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, totaled $83,500. Staff said the city would be responsible for $17,500 of the project and recommended allowing the mayor to sign the contract between the city and Jim Barton Construction; council approved that action.
Why it matters: The wastewater roof and hangar projects restore or preserve city infrastructure and leverage grant funds for the airport project, limiting the city’s net share for the hangar work. Council approved the awards and authorized staff to finalize agreements.
