Historic Commission approves shingle replacement at 316 South Main Street

Don Fentress, the applicant for 316 South Main Street, told the Historic Commission it seeks to replace roof shingles and maintain the house his family has owned since 1973.
"I just want to place shingles on the roof at 316 South Main Street," Don Fentress said, and added the roof was last replaced in 2001. He told commissioners the property is not for sale and that he intends to keep it in its current use.
Commissioners asked whether the proposed shingles match the existing material and whether both the detached garage and the house would receive the same treatment. The applicant confirmed the work covers the main house and the detached garage and that the sample submitted matches the current appearance.
A commissioner moved to approve case HBCO4-01-26-10 "as presented." The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. After the vote, the commission instructed the applicant to work with staff (identified in the meeting as Ryan) to complete permitting and to return to the commission if the final materials or dimensions differ from what was approved.
The approval allows the applicant to proceed with permit application and scheduling of the work; no calendar date for construction was specified in the meeting.
