County solid waste office to relocate; transfer-station bids sent to legal review

Kittitas County staff told the Solid Waste and Maintenance board the county's Solid Waste Office and the MRW (Mobile Recycling/Reuse) facility will close at the current location March 30 and 31 and reopen at a new site on April 1, with MRW appointments resuming on April 6.
Patti Stacey said the contractor has called for occupancy and that SCS Engineers will be on site Saturday for final inspection. Staff discussed a later timeline—May or June—for moving the Transfer Station and the Compost Facility. The board directed staff to prepare and bring a resolution for closure to the next agenda or to an administrative meeting.
On the Cle Elum Transfer Station entrance project, Stacey said the county received eight bids but that the apparent low bidder submitted a bid with a substantial error. Stacey reported the bid documents have been forwarded to legal for review and that staff will bring a recommendation after legal completes its determination.
No cost of the office move, contractor name (beyond inspection and contractor mobilization references), or firm schedule for transfer-station relocation was provided in the minutes. The board did not vote on the closure resolution at this meeting; it only directed staff to return a resolution for future action.
