Board proclaims National Public Health Week, introduces new hires and schedules budget hearings

The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors on April 7, 2026, approved a proclamation designating April 6–12 as National Public Health Week and took several routine administrative actions, including introductions of new hires and scheduling of upcoming budget hearings.
Supervisor Susan Miller moved, and Supervisor Jeff Jorgensen seconded, to adopt the proclamation recognizing National Public Health Week, citing the theme “Ready. Set. Action!” and noting county public health services such as immunizations, disease investigation, environmental health, WIC, health education and emergency preparedness. The board approved the proclamation by unanimous vote.
Brenda Mainwaring, president and CEO of the Iowa West Foundation, appeared before the board to provide an update on the foundation’s 2026 grant award cycle 1. The record states this was for discussion only and no board action was taken.
The board also introduced several recently hired county staff: Brooke Miller, Administrative Assistant at Secondary Roads; Angel Thomas, Behavioral Health System Navigator (Jail); and Sarah Black, Real Estate & Drainage Specialist (Auditor’s Office). Those hires were included in the consent agenda earlier in the meeting and were noted to the board.
The board set two public hearings for 10:00 a.m. on April 28, 2026: one for an amendment to the FY 2025/26 budget and one for the Pottawattamie County FY 2026–27 budget. Both motions passed unanimously.
Administrative items received and filed during the session included payroll-status changes for Jesus Navarette and Kate Gerber, employment of Cristian Campos as a burn crew member in Conservation, an out-of-state travel notification for Michael Hess (Jail), and the Recorder’s Fee Book for March 2026.
