Castle Dale's city council voted to rezone property owned by Barbara Mikkel from R-1 to R-18000, a change planning staff said would allow the owner to create smaller, lower-cost lots.
A Land Use committee member explained the request and said the city's general plan shows a proposed roadway through the property; the owner was informed and plans to work around the proposed route. The committee held a public hearing prior to forwarding the request to the council, and planning and zoning recommended approval.
A council member moved to rezone the parcel consistent with the Planning and Zoning recommendation; another member seconded, and the motion carried with no recorded opposition. Council discussion at the meeting did not produce any conditions or amendments to the rezone; staff noted the item will be processed per normal land-use procedures.
The rezoning will allow the property owner to subdivide parcels into smaller lots to reduce entry costs for prospective buyers. Staff advised the council that additional short-term rental rules and other land-use topics remain under committee consideration and will be discussed in future meetings.
