"The amount covers the cost of the new robot with no cost match required," a police representative told the council, and staff emphasized the equipment benefits the region: the Elko Regional Bomb Squad serves multiple counties and can assist elsewhere in the state as needed.
Separately, council authorized staff to apply for a subgrant through the Nevada Department of Wildlife to fund planning stages for a proposed Elko Community Pond and Park. Staff said the subgrant would be for roughly $150,000 and would fund planning only (professional planning, renderings and initial studies), not construction. Council approved the application authorization by motion.
Both items were approved by voice vote; staff will complete grant paperwork and follow reporting conditions specified by the granting entities.
