Board authorizes liquidation of obsolete emergency vehicles; proceeds earmarked for repair fund

The Esmeralda County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 6 authorized the continued liquidation of outdated, non‑repairable or cost‑prohibitive emergency services equipment and vehicles from all three fire stations.
Fire Chief Jeffrey Bushnell presented detailed lists of apparatus recommended for removal, describing ambulances and support vehicles with engine problems, rear‑box failures or that had reached end of life. Examples included a 1998 Ford E Super Duty ambulance (VIN 1FDXE40F2WHA39965), a 2004 Ford E450 ambulance with rear box issues, multiple nonrunning 1970s–1990s pickups and a 1966 Joe Stine tanker trailer listed as nonfunctional.
Commissioner Rachel Holt moved and Commissioner Fred Perez seconded a motion to continue the liquidation process and to authorize Chief Bushnell to pursue sale or disposal avenues judged most beneficial to the county, with all proceeds deposited into the Emergency Services Equipment Repair and Replacement Account. The board also added a 1999 Jeep (EX50455) from BOCC Fleet disposition with proceeds directed to the General Fund. The motion passed by unanimous vote.
The authorization lets the fire chief manage sale or disposal logistics; the board instructed that proceeds be tracked and placed into the designated repair and replacement account for future equipment purchases or repairs.
