City manager: Fernley lands amendment adopted; legislative update flags budget deadlines

City Manager Benjamin Marchand told the council that an amendment benefiting the Fernley lands bill was adopted as part of the House continuing budget resolution and that the bill will next be scheduled for a House floor hearing.
"The amendment to the lands bill was adopted with the continuing budget resolution of the house," Marchand said, calling it a major step for the city. He cautioned that the bill will face additional steps, including Senate consideration and reconciliation.
Daniel Giudice, providing the state legislative update, said the economic forum indicated a narrower-than-expected budget shortfall for the biennium (he cited about $350 million) and warned of two deadlines for bill movement: committee passage in the second house by May 16 and second-house passage by May 23. He listed several economic-development bills the city is tracking and said staff will keep the council informed.
Mayor McIntyre and councilmembers offered thanks to the mayor and city staff for their work with legislators and to councilmembers who attended hearings in Carson City.
