Mayor Ciccarelli proclaims cultural months, announces local grants and upcoming events

"Now, therefore, be it proclaimed that we, the mayor and Hillsborough Township Committee, do hereby recognize October 2025 as Hindu heritage month and encourage all residents to join in celebrating the many contributions of Hindu Americans," he said.
The mayor highlighted community-support activity: Adams RC RCers presented a $350 donation to the Hillsborough Community Assistance Network, and Ciccarelli said the Hillsborough rewards program awarded $10,117.83 in grants this year, part of more than $100,000 distributed since the program began in 2008. "Today, they're pleased to present this year's donation of $350," he said.
Other announcements covered civic services and events: a township committee member said early voting will be available at the Municipal Building from Oct. 25 through Nov. 2; the Scarecrow Festival awards ceremony is set for Oct. 29 from 4:30 to 6 p.m.; the fall Experience Hillsborough e‑magazine is available; winter basketball registration is open for grades 3 through high school; and a ticketed trip to the Scarlet Knights game vs. Maryland is planned for Nov. 8 with $40 tickets.
Public-safety and service reminders included a notice to contact the building department before replacing major appliances, the town's leaf‑pickup program beginning Nov. 3 with two seasonal passes, and a DEA National Take Back Day for medication disposal on Oct. 25. "Chief Michael McMahon and the Hillsborough Police Department urge residents to prioritize safety this Halloween," a township official said. The mayor also announced a Veterans Day ceremony Nov. 11 at 9 a.m. in the Garden of Honor and said Somerset County is collecting feedback on electric-vehicle charging infrastructure.
Ciccarelli closed the update by noting recent town events he attended, including school visits and local ribbon-cuttings, and encouraged residents to get involved in town programs and events. "That's all the news for this meeting. Until next time," he said.
