The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners voted Sept. 2 to create official county social-media profiles on Instagram and Facebook for public-service announcements and informational postings.
IT Director Tracy Lee told the Board the handle lincolncountynevada already exists on Instagram but the Board approved using lincolncountynvgov for official postings. Commissioners debated who should have posting privileges, whether elected officials or IT staff should post directly, and how to handle emergencies. District Attorney April Bradshaw urged caution about political content; Deputy District Attorney Wayne Klomp recommended a written policy before posting regularly.
The Board appointed Commissioners Lisa Poulsen and Janine Woodworth as administrators/contacts, designated Treasurer Shawn Frehner as backup and directed staff to establish written rules limiting content to factual public notices (for example, facility closings) and prohibiting campaign uses. The Board also discussed keeping videos short (Tracy Lee recommended under 2.5 minutes) and initially restricting posts to emergency notices until formal policy is adopted.
Next steps include IT establishing the accounts and a draft social-media policy to return to the Board for review.
