Sheriff Derek Foremaster updated the Board of Commissioners on public‑safety operations and jail conditions. Foremaster said dispatch will be relocated into the patrol office for improved safety and security, and the jail’s control pod will be moved to the vacated dispatch space.
He reported one patrol truck was sold to the City of Caliente, staffing shifts including a new jailer who started last week, and that some US Marshals inmates rotated out but the jail population remains between approximately 25 and 36 inmates. He also noted ongoing operational issues at the jail including plumbing, water‑heater and sump pump problems discussed during the quarterly jail tour.
Foremaster told the board staff received an update from Senator Rosen’s office that the RIMS item is moving forward in Congress and, if included in the next spending bill, Lincoln County would receive $531,000. The sheriff characterized that funding as contingent on congressional appropriation.
No formal board action was taken on the sheriff’s report; it was provided for information and operational planning.
