Cramerton allocates $10,000 in ARPA funds to Montcross Emerge economic development program

The Town of Cramerton Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 on Sept. 2 to allocate $10,000 from American Rescue Plan Act funds to the Montcross Chamber’s ‘Montcross Emerge’ economic development initiative.
The allocation followed a public hearing held to satisfy North Carolina General Statutes requirements for funding consideration. Montcross representative Marc Jordan told the board the program will begin with a kickoff on Sept. 16 at the Kimbrell Center from 8 a.m. to noon, include a COVID-19 vaccination station, and consist of three to four sessions. Jordan said he and his team would provide quarterly updates to the town on program progress.
Commissioners asked whether local businesses would be required to join the chamber to participate; Jordan said membership would not be required. Commissioners also discussed staff involvement and asked for regular reporting on outcomes and expenditures. Commissioner Helms moved to approve the allocation; Commissioner Neeley seconded the motion.
The funding was described during the hearing as coming from available ARPA funds. No public speakers signed up for the hearing.
The board’s vote completes the town-level appropriation for the first year; the town did not specify any additional years of commitment beyond the $10,000 for year one. The town requested quarterly follow-ups from Montcross on participation and use of funds.
