Council approves Minnesota Power land sale, clarifier repairs, zoo acquisitions and routine business

Little Falls City Council on Feb. 2 voted on a series of routine and project-specific items: it adopted Ordinance No. 61 approving the sale of 17 parcels in the Chief Hole In The Day Industrial Park to Minnesota Power for a new service center; it approved a $25,250 change order to repair corroded clarifier hangers at the water treatment plant; it authorized the Friends of Pine Grove Zoo to obtain two animals of a species the zoo expects to acquire in 2026; it approved mayoral appointments to the Community Services Advisory Board and disbanded the Little Falls Fire Relief Association; and it declared two old computers surplus under Resolution 2026-13.
On the Minnesota Power transaction, Alex told council the sale will move 17 parcels onto the tax rolls and provide a site for a new Minnesota Power service center. The ordinance was adopted by roll call; council recorded affirmative votes for Lundberg, Lojegren, Meyer, Kanofala, Glaze, Hansen and Goseck.
Greg described an unexpected maintenance need at the water treatment facility: hangers that support clarifier troughs had severely corroded and one broke during work. The contractor quoted $25,250 to replace about 28 rods and sandblast and repaint other metal; Greg recommended charging the cost to the water improvement fund. "Those hangers are stainless steel...we are going to an upgraded one with stainless steel so that it doesn't rust like these have," Greg said. Council approved Change Order No. 1 by voice vote.
Council approved the zoo request to acquire two animals and discussed whether ownership could be transferred to the Friends of the Zoo later; staff said insurance requirements are the primary constraint. The council also approved mayoral appointments and formally disbanded the Little Falls Fire Relief Association. Finally, council adopted Resolution 2026-13 to declare two very old computers surplus and authorize disposal.
