Student leaders say Stockton Unified’s PLUS program raised indicators for caring relationships and safety

The share of students reporting they feel safe on campus rose from 67% to 72%, and the percentage who said their voice mattered to adults rose from 61% to 68%.
Students outlined how PLUS forums, mentoring, mediation, wellness fairs and student‑driven prevention calendars translated data into activities on campuses. One student speaker summarized the program’s expectation: “If you wanna take time to listen, take time to act too.” Staff said school‑level reports are available on request and that district‑wide results are posted on the PLUS website.
Trustees asked about class‑versus‑club implementation and survey participation rates; presenters said some schools operate PLUS as a for‑credit class (often funded through LCAP) while others run it as a club, and participation varies by grade because parent permission is required for younger grades. The next district survey was scheduled for September with results to be shared later in the fall.
