Benton County supervisors accept $20,500 bid for Cherveny Wildlife Area, approve routine claims and hires

At its April 7 meeting the Benton County Board accepted a $20,500 high bid for the Cherveny Wildlife Area, approved claims and payroll, hired a seasonal land use staff member, accepted quarterly reports, granted a temporary alcohol license, and acknowledged an IDOT five-year roads plan.
The Benton County Board of Supervisors on April 7 accepted a high bid of $20,500 from Randy Patten for the county-owned Cherveny Wildlife Area and approved a slate of routine administrative items including claims, payroll, personnel actions and quarterly reports.
At the public bid opening set for 10:00 a.m., bids were recorded from Kerry Less, Randy Patten and an absent Darren Rinderknecht. Bidding escalated and the Board accepted Patten’s $20,500 offer. Supervisor Volz moved to accept the high bid and Chairman Seeman seconded; those present voted in favor and the motion carried.
Earlier in the meeting the Board approved claims numbered 256963–257099 and payroll and ACH deposits as listed; the motion approving claims and payroll recorded Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. The Board also approved hiring Martha Fey for part-time seasonal employment in the Land Use and Health Department at $20.00 per hour effective April 13, 2026 through Sept. 30, 2026; acknowledged the resignation of part-time correctional officer Whitney Amos effective April 1, 2026; and approved the Auditor’s, Veterans Affairs and General Assistance quarterly reports.
The Board approved a Special Class “C” Retail Alcohol License for the Watkins Community Athletic Association effective May 29, 2026 through May 29, 2027. County Engineer Myron Parizek presented the Iowa DOT five-year secondary roads construction plan for FY27–FY31; the Board acknowledged the plan and Parizek said he will return for formal action when the plan is finalized.
The meeting record shows motions and votes recorded for these items; most routine approvals were carried unanimously by the supervisors present. The meeting adjourned at 10:37 a.m.
