Sheriff’s office, SROs and district followed protocol after anonymous threat; school secured

The Nassau County School District and county sheriff’s office responded to an anonymous threat referencing proximity to a middle school, school officials reported March 12.
Chief Valentine told the school board that the call did not originate at the school and came via an anonymous line, limiting the ability to trace the caller. The sheriff’s office, which already had a deputy assigned as the school resource officer (SRO), placed the school in a hold, swept campus and parking areas, set up a command post and coordinated parent reunification at a nearby location. "Every kid went home safe. Every kid was accounted for. The plan worked just exactly how it's been drawn up," Chief Valentine said (Chief Valentine).
District staff arranged transportation for students who were off campus on a field trip and worked with the sheriff’s office and resources from Jacksonville to secure the perimeter. No injuries were reported and the school was found secure. The superintendent thanked law-enforcement partners and staff for executing the safety protocols.
What happens next: District and law-enforcement partners will continue any necessary follow-up investigations and review response procedures as appropriate.
