Board approves $36.1M Bailey Elementary construction contract and several service agreements

Major capital award: trustees approved a construction contract with Gamma Construction Company for the New Bailey Elementary replacement project (2022 bond) in the amount of $36,147,181. District staff said representatives of Gamma and the firm—s project manager were present and that other districts (Dickinson ISD, Katy ISD) had given favorable references.
Other approved items included final change order No. 007 for the new administration building (credit of $23,638), Allowance Expenditure Authorizations (AEA) for bond projects (various amounts, including a $113,708 AEA for the 2017 Bond Transportation Center replacement project), commissioning and commissioning services (MEP commissioning for $30,000), HVAC testing and balancing ($46,775), and AEA adjustments for safety and security projects (e.g., $105,000 for 2022 bond safety and security work).
Special-education services: the board approved a contract with Avondale House for tuition and educational services totaling $842,350 for 15 special-education students. Trustees also approved smaller interlocal service agreements such as music therapy ($9,785) and a speech-language partnership with Texas Woman—s University (no financial implication).
Trustees took the actions by motion and voice vote; several board members offered positive remarks about the contractors and programs.
