Council authorizes $9 million guaranteed maximum price for Waterworks building stabilization

The Savannah City Council authorized the city manager on March 12 to execute a contract modification with Garber Construction Company establishing a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) of $9,000,000 for the Waterworks building stabilization project.
Alderman Bernetta B. Lanier, who pulled the item for discussion, framed the project as a step toward creating a community market and entrepreneur center on the west side: "We are moving 1 step closer to manifesting a long sought after vision of having a community market and entrepreneur center west," she said. Council voted to authorize the contract modification by voice vote.
City staff described the work as stabilization for a long-sought community asset; the item was in the purchasing section of the agenda and the GMP was recorded in the council motion. The council also approved two additional procurement items: a trailer contract with K and B Inc. not to exceed $78,225, and a prefabricated storage building for Daffin Park with Guardian Incorporated not to exceed $330,191.
The contract establishes a GMP; the contract modification and any further design or change orders will follow procurement rules and reporting procedures.
