Peoria SD 150 board approves multiple policy updates, consent agenda and expulsions

The Peoria SD 150 Board of Education on March 9 approved a large consent agenda, adopted updates to multiple personnel and communications policies and carried motions to authorize expulsions listed in the district report.
The board approved the consent agenda by voice roll call with six ayes; the package included gifts totaling $24,900, payment of bills and travel, multiple overnight student field trips, an IHSA membership renewal and an agreement with the Peoria Police Department. Vice President McConnell presented the consent items and the secretary announced the aye votes.
In separate deliberation items the board unanimously approved updated policies covering anti-nepotism (Policy 2:90), equal employment opportunity and minority recruitment (Policy 5:10), expenses (Policy 5:60), wireless cell communication (Policy 5:65), religious holidays (Policy 5:70), recognition for service (Policy 5:110), electronic communication and social networks (Policy 5:130) and solicitations by or from staff (Policy 5:140). Each policy update was brought forward, seconded and carried on roll-call votes recorded as 6 ayes.
On a procedural motion to approve the board minutes from Feb. 23 the roll call produced divided votes: Missus Kostick (Aye), Missus McConnell (Aye), Missus Rose (Nay), Missus Ross (Aye), Missus Wilson (Nay) and President Wilson (Aye). The chair announced the motion carried 4–2.
The board also approved discipline recommendations listed on the March 9 report, including expulsions and expulsions held in abeyance; each carried on roll-call votes recorded as six ayes. Board members provided brief remarks recognizing staff and students between items but did not reopen the consent agenda items for separate debate.
The board scheduled follow-up and committee meetings; no formal referendum or additional public hearings were set on the approved policies.
The meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
