Students showcase unified inclusion and small-school leadership at Murrieta Valley Unified meeting

Students and staff from Veil Middle School and Murrieta Canyon Academy presented the district's inclusive programs, underscoring how co-taught Unified classes and small-campus leadership opportunities support student belonging and academic engagement.
Jason Hamm, Veil Middle School principal, introduced the Unified Panther program, which pairs students with and without disabilities in Unified PE, art and leadership activities. Presenters described how the program emphasizes teamwork, mutual encouragement and collaborative projects such as murals and assemblies.
At Murrieta Canyon Academy, principal Matt Beam introduced leadership advisor Amelia Kowalski and student leaders who described how the program helped them find purpose, build professional skills and reengage academically after struggles elsewhere. Student Gavin Larson (student of the month) and peers said leadership roles helped them develop communication and responsibility and provided a close community where staff know students by name.
Trustees praised the students as role models and thanked staff for cultivating inclusive environments. The board recognized Gavin Larson as MCA's student of the month.
No board action was required; presentations were part of the public portion of the agenda.
