Charles Mix County awards multiple 2026 road and bridge contracts, approves Wahehe Township bridge replacement

Chairman Colin Soukup moved to contract Hollaway Bridge and Culvert for the Wahehe Township bridge replacement; Vice Chairman Kory Standy seconded the motion, and it passed unanimously. The minutes state the contract price as $242,670.
The board opened sealed bids for countywide asphalt patching and accepted Spencer Quarries Inc./Commercial Asphalt’s bid of $125 per ton (with several loading-price options listed in the minutes) for County Wide Asphalt Patching. Spencer Quarries was also the apparent low bidder on a 10.0-mile, 3-inch-mat overlay for Project Segment 54 (County Road 34) at $2,959,200; the board accepted that overlay bid until the next bid letting notice.
For chip/fog-seal work on Segment 23-38 (County Road 49, 8.52 miles), The Road Guy Construction Co. Inc. submitted a combined bid of $326,361 ($264,947 for chip seal, $61,414 for fog seal) and the board voted to accept that bid until the next bid letting notice. The minutes list Hollaway Bridge and Culvert’s equipment and labor hourly rates and show the board accepted Hollaway’s bridge-repair package until the next bid letting notice.
Commissioners also opened a long list of contractor equipment bids from local and regional firms and voted to accept all submitted Road Machinery Services bids until the next bid letting. True North Steel’s bids to supply metal pipe, guardrail, steel decking, timber bridge products and prefabricated modular steel bridges were likewise accepted.
All highway-related motions recorded in the minutes passed by voice votes with motions typically moved by Standy and seconded by Stotz.
Next steps listed in the minutes indicate the accepted bids will be held “until the next bid letting notice,” and individual projects will proceed under the awarded contracts and applicable procurement rules.
