District and consultant outline draft strategic plan priorities and community engagement process

District and outside planning partners updated the school board on a draft strategic plan that officials say is grounded in broad community engagement and intends to align goals, instruction and supporting infrastructure to improve student outcomes.

A district presenter said the process uses cross-sectional teams—core planning, educator, student voice and alignment teams—and that to date the process has held 18 convenings with more meetings scheduled. The district described draft plan components as a short, 15–20-word "promise," a one-page "portrait of a graduate" articulating competencies such as critical thinking, and five goals that together form a narrative from early strong starts to a strong finish for graduates.

The district’s performance partner summarized the approach, saying the plan is structured around three parts: what the district wants for students, instruction as the primary driver of learning, and the infrastructure to support teachers and systems. The presenter said the team recommended limiting measures to no more than two per goal to give the district a manageable dashboard of about 10 measures.

Board members were asked to help publicize a final community forum scheduled for April 15 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. (location tentatively the community room or the public library) to gather additional input before finalizing the plan. Officials said equity commitments and some detailed strategies and milestones remain under discussion and will be refined at upcoming meetings.
