Planning Commission adopts 2026 historic preservation work program, forwards Resolution 4540 to council

The Planning Commission, acting as the Historic & Cultural Resources Advisor (HCRA), voted on March 10 to adopt a 2026 HCRA work program and forward Resolution No. 4540 to the City Council.
Bridal, the staff presenter, reviewed 2025 accomplishments — participation in the Sunset Market and the Tustin Area Historical Society events, historic preservation week co-hosted with local partners, updates to an online historic-preservation story map, and a virtual walking tour — and said the 2026 program will refresh the walking tour, clarify the city’s two plaque programs, and continue commissioner trainings.
“Last year we highlighted Tustin's military past and we included two walking tours,” Bridal said, describing activities staff coordinated with the Tustin Area Historical Society and the Tustin Preservation Conservancy.
After brief questions about maintenance responsibility for a Columbus bust (Bridal said it appeared to have been privately funded and that staff would follow up), the commission voted to approve the resolution. The roll-call vote was recorded as 4-0-1.
The commission’s action forwards the HCRA work program to City Council for receipt and filing and directs staff to implement the outlined outreach and program updates in 2026.
