Director Clanton reported that four of five bronze plaque emblems and the time capsule plaque were taken and that the city has video images of the incident and the police are involved. Clanton said a plaque noting the park opening (which included a commissioner's name) was also missing; staff are evaluating replacement options and noted they may avoid bronze for replacements because of the thefts.
Clanton described the incident as "a bummer" and said staff will follow up with police and present options for replacement at a future meeting. Commissioners asked about timing; Clanton said the theft occurred late the prior night (around 01:30) and the items were discovered earlier that day.
Next steps: staff will coordinate with law enforcement on the investigation, assess replacement costs and materials, and report back to the commission with options.
