Maywood trustees approve labor agreements, table several appointments and direct ordinance drafting on short-term rentals

At its July 9 meeting the Village of Maywood Board of Trustees approved a labor contract with the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police Labor Council for full-time telecommunicators (term Oct. 1, 2018–Apr. 30, 2020) and a collective bargaining agreement with Teamsters Local 700 for part-time police officers (term May 1, 2019–Apr. 30, 2023).
The telecommunicators contract passed on a split vote after debate about Maywood’s representation in negotiations; Trustees A. Sanchez, K. Wellington, M. Lightford and N. Booker voted in favor, while Mayor Edwenna Perkins and Trustees I. Brandon and M. Jones opposed. The Teamsters agreement for part-time officers passed unanimously.
The board tabled an appointment to the Economic Development Commission (Eileen Olivier) pending a policy discussion about limiting consideration to two commission appointments per meeting. Separately, Village Attorney Michael Marrs presented a memorandum on short-term house rental regulations (Airbnb/HomeAway) and the board directed staff to begin drafting an ordinance to regulate short-term rentals.
The board also approved an independent-contractor pay adjustment (a $2 raise) for an assistant secretary to the Fire and Police Commission, after Trustee Brandon sought clarity on compensation thresholds for temporary versus permanent secretarial roles.
The board recessed to closed session for limited personnel and property-sale matters and adjourned at 11:23 p.m.
