Local donor gives $3,500 to support arts-based mental-health programming in Hillsborough schools

Donetta Johnson, founder of the Allegra School of Music and Arts and the Jonah Johnson Youth Scholarship Fund, presented a $3,500 donation to the Hillsborough Township Board of Education at its Jan. 29 meeting.
Johnson said the donation will support professional development on using the arts to support mental-health and social-emotional learning, including two sessions scheduled for Feb. 17 tailored to neurodivergent and general education students. "We are so happy to support Hillsborough's kids as your community partner," Johnson said.
Superintendent Mr. Volpe thanked Johnson and said the district will ensure the funds are used where they are most needed. The donation amount was confirmed in the agenda after an earlier listing of $3,000 was updated to $3,500.
The board accepted the donation during the operations/actions portion of the meeting; the district said it will formally acknowledge and allocate the funds as described by the donor.
