DeKalb committee defers ordinance on unauthorized camping and public nuisance
Summary
An ordinance to amend DeKalb County code addressing unauthorized camping and certain public-nuisance behaviors was held in committee and deferred for two weeks so staff and the interim county attorney can circulate a revised draft.
The PECS committee considered an ordinance (file 2026-055) introduced from District 3 to amend the DeKalb County code to address public safety, vacancy, unauthorized camping and related nuisance behaviors. Interim County Attorney apologized for late feedback and said staff had just provided comments to the sponsor.
Chair Nicole Messia and commissioners agreed to continue work with the sponsor and legal staff and to hold the agenda item in committee while staff and the sponsor refine the draft. A motion to defer the ordinance for two weeks was made and passed by voice vote.
