Board approves two settlement agreements, proclaims Arts Education Month, and increases staffing contract funding

Those settlements were disclosed at the start of the open session.
Resolution: The board adopted Resolution 25-26-12 proclaiming March 2026 as Arts Education Month after reading key "whereas" clauses highlighting arts' role in student creativity and career pathways.
Transportation services plan: Trustees approved the district's 2025-26 Transportation Services Plan required under state law to maintain eligibility for state funding; staff said there are no changes from last year and that the district does not operate general home-to-school busing for general education students.
Consent calendar and contract amendment: The board approved the consent calendar (items 8.1 through 11.2), which included about $2.8 million in expenditures. Trustee Clifford permitted trustee 14 to pull item 9.2 for further discussion. Item 9.2 was a requested increase to a staffing agency contract that supplies behavioral certified aides and LVN substitutes; staff explained the district lacks in-house qualified substitutes for these positions. The original fiscal-year allotment was about $350,000; trustees approved an additional $100,000 to meet needs through June 30, 2026, and possibly to cover summer services, with a motion to approve made on the record and a second by Trustee Garcia.
