The Minooka Community High School District #111 board on Aug. 20 approved a series of procurement and contract actions, voting to award equipment bids and to authorize several district contracts.
By roll call, the board awarded a kitchen fryer contract to Douglas Equipment for $32,550.07 following administration’s recommendation (motion by Terry Spivey, seconded by Tim Juskiewicz). The board also awarded a dump truck contract to Ron Tirapelli Ford for $74,865; district staff recommended the higher‑priced award because lower bids did not meet criteria or lacked immediate availability or would have required out‑of‑state pickup and associated travel costs.
The board approved an engagement letter for litigation support with Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE) and authorized emergency bus driver contracts to address staffing shortages in transportation. Members also approved a Transportation attendance bonus memorandum of understanding intended to improve staffing retention.
Administration asked to sell up to eight tubas and 70 French textbooks at prices determined by administration; the board approved the sale. The board also approved donating four old wrestling mats to the Minooka Wrestling Club and approved International Student Exchange (ISE) as an approved student exchange provider.
Procedure and votes: the procurement and contract approvals were handled by motion and recorded as carried; aye votes on several items were listed as Kooi, Spivey, Juskiewicz, Hoyt and Hrechko.
Why it matters: the awards and contract approvals affect operational capacity (kitchen services, grounds/transportation) and legal support capacity for district proceedings. The emergency driver contracts and attendance bonus are intended to address immediate transportation staffing shortages.
What’s next: staff will proceed with vendor contract execution and billing arrangements (including billing District 201 for transportation services) and will implement the attendance bonus and emergency driver agreements as approved.
