Summary
After staff and family votes favored Option 2, the board approved a 2026–27 instructional calendar option (Option 2) designed to preserve professional development days while aiming to "hold harmless" staff pay amid state funding uncertainty.
The Moriarty-Edgewood School District board voted March 17 to adopt Instructional Calendar Option 2 for the 2026–27 school year after reviewing two proposed calendars and recent staff and family feedback.
Administrators told the board that state-level uncertainty over K–12 plus funding (House Bill 2) required the district to present two calendar options. Option 2 shifts professional development days while aiming to keep the total work-year comparable for staff and to end the school year before Memorial Day. District staff reported voting results provided to the board: 52.1% of participating staff supported Option 2, and 69.4% of participating families supported Option 2.
A motion to approve Option 2 was moved and seconded and carried on a voice vote. Administration said the calendar choices are intended to avoid immediate pay reductions for staff if state funding falls short; the district will attempt to "hold harmless" salaries and incorporate the professional-development days back into the calendar as workdays subject to budget decisions.
Why it matters: calendar shape affects instruction time, family schedules, teacher pay and planning for professional development. Administrators said the final budget discussions this spring will determine whether the district can preserve pay and additional days for staff.
