The Moriarty-Edgewood School District board approved the SY25 single-audit March 17 after auditors presented a separate federal compliance review and reported no findings.
The auditor summarized the report for the board, saying the audit included three parts: compliance for major federal programs, internal-control testing, and a schedule-of-expenditures reconciliation. The auditor reported: "we didn't find any material weakness or significant deficiency," and that the schedule of federal awards totaled about $4,200,000, with approximately $1,600,000 sampled (about 38%). The auditor added that prior-year audit findings were also cleared.
Board members asked a few procedural questions; the superintendent's office explained that a late federal rule change required the district to separate the single-audit work from the main financial statement audit and to allow extra time for the additional testing. After discussion, Albert Chavez moved to approve the SY25 single-audit report; the motion was seconded and carried on voice vote.
Why it matters: single-audit reports assess federal program compliance and internal controls; a clean single-audit means the auditors did not identify material problems tied to federal funds that would require corrective action. District staff noted the separate single-audit was required this year by new federal audit guidance and said the report will be presented again at the regular meeting for final approval documentation.
The board did not debate or amend any findings because the auditors reported none. The district's finance staff said they will include the single-audit materials in the public record accompanying the regular meeting minutes.
