District staff reported a projected ending general-fund balance of roughly $2.3 million to $2.4 million and said the district currently projects a drawdown of about $438,000 for the year. The business report noted a month-over-month decline in basic education enrollment of approximately 17.5 students (a net effect of roughly a 12‑student decrease after adjustments).
Trustees asked about fuel-contract indexing and how state tax exemptions are handled; staff said fuel is budgeted with a baseline plus an add-on to account for fluctuations and that the district has federal tax‑exempt status but still pays state taxes embedded in price.
The superintendent and business staff also reminded trustees the Washington State Auditor’s Office is conducting an entrance conference and that the audit is expected to be shorter this year (about six weeks) with an estimated cost around $25,000 plus travel. The audit will review financial statements, food-service revenues and special‑education federal claims and will include purchase‑practice reviews.
The board approved routine consent items and several purchases later in the agenda by voice vote. Staff will continue to monitor enrollment and budget variance and report updates in subsequent meetings.
