The Harlem Consolidated School District #122 board introduced and recognized the middle school girls flag football team at its Sept. 8 meeting. Assistant Superintendent Jason Blume brought the students forward and Coach Brenna Mackey described the team’s opportunity to participate in an appearance at Soldier Field during a preseason game, calling the participation “history-making” for girls flag football at the district and noting that about 26 girls are interested in playing.
The board and staff applauded the students and wished the team success in their season. The recognition was part of the meeting’s awards and recognitions segment prior to routine consent and action items.
Marquette Elementary students also led the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of the meeting.
