Dixon USD 170 reports grant for middle-school air-conditioning, enrollment decline and rising insurance costs

Chief School Business Official Marc Campbell told the Dixon USD 170 Board of Education on Aug. 20 that the district received a grant intended to be used on an air-conditioning unit at Reagan Middle School. Campbell also provided updates on state evidence-based funding, a county facility sales tax, CPPRT revenue and previewed health insurance cost increases that will take effect Jan. 1, 2026.
Campbell said the district plans to recommend Marco as the copier vendor at the September board meeting. Assistant Superintendent Doug Stansford reported strong summer-school attendance and a decrease in the number of students required to attend this year.
Superintendent Margo Empen reported that the district's student enrollment for 2025–26 is down by 140 students compared with last year. Staff members Mandy Dallas, Hele Rowley and Carie Ramirez reported that 580 students received supplies through the Tools for School program this year.
Board members asked questions during the business report. No dollar amounts for the grant or the insurance increase were specified in the meeting record.
