Public commenters press El Rancho board on staff conduct, facilities and international issues

Fernando Islas (identified by staff as the first public commenter) used his time to criticize the board's stances on international affairs and what he described as district actions he called hypocritical. "You guys are all hypocrites, all of you," Islas told the board and referenced retracted awards and complaints about district positions on Gaza and other municipal decisions.
A subsequent commenter (the speaker who identified as the daughter'author of an email read aloud) described a lengthy unresolved dispute with a coach at a high school cheer program, alleging poor communication from the school and emotional harm. "This was a perfect opportunity to actually show me, and I was let down tremendously," the student said as she described missing a competition and not receiving a response to an emailed concern.
Parent and longtime resident Raul Reyes announced his retirement from teaching and congratulated newly elected trustees; his remarks were largely celebratory and appreciative of past service. Another parent, Lionel Brenna, raised detailed facility and maintenance concerns at Salazar High School including flooring, water intrusion, lack of bond-funded improvements, failing windows and HVAC concerns. Brenna said some areas posed tripping hazards and asked the board to prioritize investments.
Board response and process notes: board staff reminded speakers of public-comment protocols and noted the district's distinction between restricted bond or project funds and general-fund operating dollars; trustees asked staff to follow up. The board cautioned one commenter who used disparaging language and reminded the public about decorum rules.
