Summary
The board approved a municipal agreement accepting a $440,000 Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) grant to construct a greenway along the South Fork River between Cramerton and McAdenville and authorized staff to begin engineering selection; the agreement carries a five-year spending deadline.
Town officials voted unanimously on Aug. 19 to accept a $440,000 Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) municipal agreement for project C-5704, a greenway trail between Cramerton and McAdenville.
The funding was reallocated from an inactive Cramer Mountain Road sidewalk project and requires the Town to accept NCDOT’s municipal agreement and spend the funds within five years. Once the municipal agreement is approved, staff said the Town can begin the process of selecting an engineering firm to design the trail.
Town staff later noted NCDOT had indicated a strong possibility of transferring CMAQ funding into the Cramerton and McAdenville Northern Connector Greenway, reinforcing that the award remains available for the intended greenway project.
The board approved the municipal agreement by a 5–0 vote. Next steps are procurement of an engineering firm and design work consistent with NCDOT terms and the grant’s timeline.
