Board adopts ethnic studies textbook for 2026–27 pilot

The Palmdale Aerospace Academy board on April 14 approved adopting a pilot textbook, Our Stories, Our Voices, to support the state‑required ethnic studies course for incoming ninth graders. Administrators said pilot teachers had trialed different books earlier in the year and recommended this title for a broader pilot; the textbook includes a print edition and an optional online product the district declined because of recurring annual fees.
Administrators reported parents had opportunities to review materials at the front office and provide comments. The board approved the adoption for the 2026–27 year and directed administrators to coordinate integration with freshman English curricula so the ethnic studies requirement will be recorded on transcripts as an English/ethnic studies course.
Board members asked for a short overview at a future meeting and inquired about teacher participation in the pilot.
