Board approves routine proclamations, expulsions and two district sponsorships

The board adopted a resolution directing districtwide participation in the 2025 Great California ShakeOut earthquake drill scheduled for Oct. 16, 2025. The motion to approve the ShakeOut resolution was moved by Miss Medina and seconded by Dr. Wyatt and recorded as carried.
The board also approved proclamations recognizing the Week of the School Administrator (the second full week in October) and Red Ribbon Week (Oct. 23–31, 2025); both items were moved, seconded and adopted by roll call.
Actions reported from closed session included multiple student discipline items. President Ceballos announced that the board accepted and adopted hearing panel recommendations ordering expulsions for listed students and recorded motions to suspend or expel other students under the board's rules and Education Code procedures. Motions on those items were moved by Mr. Tillman and seconded by Dr. Wyatt; the board recorded the votes and the motions were carried. The board also authorized readmission for a student and approved petitions to expunge or modify youth‑court or expulsion records where appropriate.
On facilities, the board approved a resolution declaring the city zoning ordinances inapplicable to the district’s public safety building project; the motion was moved by Mrs. Alexander and seconded by Dr. Wyatt and carried.
On community support, the board approved a $5,000 sponsorship for the Making Hope Happen Foundation’s second annual scholarship breakfast, which the district said has previously supported district students. Several trustees expressed concern about setting a precedent for multiple sponsorships in a single year; others cited the foundation’s scholarships to district students as justification for the contribution. The board recorded the motion and it carried.
