Students and staff celebrated: Seabrook Choir to Carnegie Hall; purchasing team honored; public commenters press voter registration and rocketry

Clear Creek ISD's April 13 board meeting opened with musical and operational highlights before the board moved into routine business.

Seabrook Intermediate Choir students were introduced and recognized for performing at the Harmonic Convergence concert at Carnegie Hall; choir director Janelle Ford and accompanist Jennifer Figge were mentioned and students were thanked for representing the district. The board then recognized the district purchasing department for receiving the Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO) Award of Merit for purchasing operations for 2026, naming Chief Financial Officer Alice Benzai and purchasing staff members and praising their adherence to professional standards.

During community input, Mary Saramelli, a volunteer voter registrar for Harris and Galveston counties, urged the district to provide more structured in-school voter registration opportunities, saying current efforts yield far fewer registered seniors than comparable districts and calling the practice a "terrible abdication" of its responsibility to graduating students. Corey Leacock introduced student rocketry presenters and highlighted hands-on STEM learning opportunities and a Clear Falls student who will represent CCISD at a national rocketry competition in Washington, D.C.

Separately, the district announced a range of student-focused events and reminders including STAAR testing, an Adapted PE Day for students with disabilities on April 15, and early-voting information for the upcoming board elections in Districts 2 and 3.

Those items framed the meeting's community and student highlights before the board proceeded to the consent agenda and other actions.
