Lane County elections office: ballots to mail April 30, 284,000 active registered voters

Elections staff updated the board on the May primary schedule and operations, reporting that the county mailed 2,033 military and overseas ballots on April 3 and expects to mail ballots to domestic voters beginning April 30 so recipients should receive them May 1–7. Staff said about 284,000 active registered voters are set to receive ballots in Lane County.
The May election is a closed primary with three ballot styles for county voters: Democratic, Republican and nonpartisan; voters registered without party affiliation will receive the nonpartisan ballot. Commissioners asked whether candidates nominated by the Independent Party of Oregon appear on nonpartisan ballots; staff committed to check with the clerk and follow up.
Staff also noted that the secretary of state's voter pamphlets will be mailed no later than April 29 and that all 21 Lane County ballot drop boxes will be open. Elections staff will provide ongoing updates to the board in advance of the May election.
