Lincoln County approves additional $10,000 for Alamo cemetery work, board flags deed discrepancy

The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 17 approved an additional $10,000 to cover dirt work and related maintenance already completed at the new Alamo cemetery, and discussed a discrepancy between cemetery deed records.
Recorder/Auditor Lisa Poulsen said $10,000 has already been spent to flatten the land and perform flood mitigation; the requested additional $10,000 would cover further dirt work already finished by county crews. Commissioners noted flood mitigation has benefited nearby residents as well as the cemetery. Several board members observed that the deed to the new cemetery lists Lincoln County as owner while the older deed names the Alamo Town Board, which board members characterized as an advisory body without authority to hold title; the discrepancy will need to be addressed.
Commissioner Lisa Poulsen moved to approve the additional $10,000 to Alamo for continued work at the cemetery; Commissioner Diane Path seconded the motion and the Board voted unanimously to approve it. Several commissioners suggested that ongoing maintenance costs should be included in next year’s budget so the Town can plan accordingly.
Next steps recorded in the meeting: staff will note the deed discrepancy and prepare follow-up language for a future agenda to resolve title and budgeting for maintenance.
