Council approves engineering agreement for 8th Street Southwest utility extension

After a presentation from the city engineer, the Kasson City Council approved a professional services agreement to begin engineering work for the 8th Street Southwest utility extension.
Engineer Brandon (speaker S7) told the council the city had received approximately $500,000 in housing grant funds to start design work for the project, which will extend water and sewer service from the area west of the cemetery, include a trail connection to the park-and-ride and shoulder of Highway 57, and position the parcel for future private development. "This project would facilitate that," Brandon said, describing the utility extension, stormwater connections and a trail alignment that will need permitting and coordination with MnDOT.
Council member Ryan (speaker S3) moved to approve the professional services agreement; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. The engineer and staff will proceed with detailed design and permitting as funded by the grant and future budget allocations. No specific construction contract or funding beyond the engineering phase was approved at the meeting.
