Board approves 2026–27 calendar as referendum construction continues

The North Brunswick Township Board of Education unanimously approved the 2026–27 school calendar on Oct. 29 after Superintendent Dr. Zikowski presented staff feedback and explained the schedule was shaped to accommodate ongoing referendum construction.
Dr. Zikowski said the district solicited staff input for the calendar and reported that approximately 580 of the district's roughly 1,200 staff responded to the survey. He told the board the calendar includes trial adjustments to workdays and flex days to provide additional summer time to complete referendum projects.
The superintendent described the referendum work as a roughly $64,000,000 project over the next two years including bathroom and window renovations, repointing and mechanical work for the high school pool. "...the following summer will be the closing out of the $64,000,000 project that we have ongoing over the next 2 years," he said, and the calendar was developed to allow that construction to be completed without overhauling long-standing scheduling patterns.
A motion to adopt the calendar was made and the clerk conducted a roll-call confirmation with each member recorded as voting yes. Board members thanked the superintendent and staff for the collaborative process and for producing a calendar for families and staff in advance of the new school year.
