Summary
The board voted to raise the county convenience-center charge from $80 to $100 per ton effective July 1, increasing projected revenue by roughly $43,000–$46,000 for the July–December period and directing staff to notify the public before the rate change.
Bremer County supervisors voted to increase the convenience-center disposal charge from $80 per ton to $100 per ton, with the new rate effective July 1. The change also keeps a low minimum for small residential loads to protect elderly users.
Tim, the landfill/convenience-center manager, told the board the facility had not raised rates in eight years and that the current operation is “running it down.” He estimated that increasing to $100 per ton would generate about $43,000–$46,000 in revenue for the July–December period, which would cover the additional cost of staffing the site. The board approved the rate increase by voice vote and asked staff to post signage and notify the public in advance of the July 1 effective date.
The manager also noted seasonal and storm-related variations in tonnage and recommended a review next April to assess whether further adjustments are needed. Supervisors framed the change as an effort to have the convenience center operate more like an enterprise fund and reduce the tax burden on non-users.
