Council appoints four to San Antonio Planning Commission after interviews

San Antonio City Council on April 2 appointed four residents to finish unexpired terms on the Planning Commission, naming Kevin Cooper, Brian Allen Lopez, Naomi Miller and Barbara Wallerstedt to serve through Oct. 6, 2027.
City Clerk Debbie Rochasitter outlined the appointment process, saying 39 residents applied and 13 were shortlisted; 7 attended in person for interviews. Candidates gave two-minute opening statements and answered questions about planning philosophy and economic development. Applicants described experience in real estate law, public infrastructure, community engagement and data analysis.
Council members thanked applicants and urged the new commissioners to weigh community engagement and anti-displacement concerns in plan-amendment deliberations. Councilman McKee Rodriguez asked appointees to consider how planning decisions honor community expectations and limit involuntary displacement.
The council moved the four appointments after executive-session deliberations; no formal action was taken in closed session, and council voted in open session to approve the appointments.
