Fergus Falls honors officers and a citizen for life‑saving actions; AED grant credited

Police Chief Justin Paul honored officer Andrew Renner for finding and stabilizing an individual on the ice near Veterans Bridge on Dec. 2, describing actions that helped prevent further injury. Paul also recognized Sergeant Lucas Delaney and K‑9 Officer Joe Mattson for their response on Dec. 4 at a clinic parking lot where CPR and AED use helped save an unresponsive person.
Chief Paul presented plaques or citation bars to officers and a temporary certificate of appreciation to community member Katie Peterson, who performed CPR at one of the incidents. Paul thanked the Helmsley Charitable Trust for a grant that supplied AEDs to patrol squads and said training provided by the fire department and division chief Dan Lipson helped ensure responders were prepared.
Paul said he has nominated Officer Renner for a statewide life‑saving award through the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association. Council members praised the officers and citizen responders and expressed gratitude for grant funding and training that contributed to the successful outcomes.
